A newly enacted law in Florida went into effect July 1, 2023 restricting the ability of individuals and entities to own or purchase agricultural land and property on or within a 10-mile radius of a critical infrastructure facility or military installation. The restriction applies to those associated with “foreign countries of concern.”
The list of foreign countries of concern includes the People’s Republic of China, the Russian Federation, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Cuba, and the Venezuelan regime of Nicolas Maduro.
There are civil and criminal penalties associated with this restriction. There are also exceptions. Speak with an attorney if you are buying or selling property in Florida.
