Like all planning, estate planning also requires follow through. Trusts must actually be funded. Gifts must be received. Wills must be filed (within 10 days of death).
When a loved one passes away, their attorney must be notified. There are many legal requirements that need to be addressed when someone dies. These requirements can be overwhelming and do vary by state. It is imperative that you consult the decedent’s attorney as soon as possible after their death. Doing so will help minimize the overwhelm. Waiting will unnecessarily complicate the Estate in the long run.
